Vacation #2 - Kansas City - Barbershop

We arrived in Kansas City on Tuesday afternoon with plenty of time before After Hours were scheduled to sing in the Collegiate competition.  They did a great job, evidenced by the fact that they TOOK HOME THE BRONZE!!!  This is great news...they got 6th place last year, and were ranked 4th (points-wise) coming in.

I don't have many pictures from our stay in downtown KC...we spent most of our time walking back and forth from the hotel to the Sprint Center (where the International Competition was being held, thankfully only a few blocks away!) and eating at great restaurants.  Thankfully there was a great Barber Tots room set up at the Sprint center, so I was even able to watch Tim's group perform via the live video feed.  After their great performance Tuesday night, they were invited to sing at the Larry Alger show that night, a fundraiser of some kind.  The videos are here and here if you are interested.  Anyway, getting third place gave After Hours a confidence boost or something, because their performance on Wednesday for the Quartet competition was even better than theirs on Tuesday night!  Out of 53 quartets they made the top 20, meaning they got to sing again on Thursday.  It was another super performance, and they ended up getting 16th...but their week wasn't over yet!  All four AH guys sing in the Sound of Illinois chorus (based in Bloomington) and performed in the chorus competition on Friday.  They placed a personal best of 15th!  Understandably, this all resulted in a VERY happy quartet and their families. :)  It was a great week.
Another beautiful sunset

There were a lot of toys in the Barber Tots room, but we also spent  a LOT of time there...so the iPods made another appearance.
We found a great gelato place and got dessert there a couple of times during the week.
After Hours...Tim, Ben, Dan, and Kevin...these guys did amazing!  Great job!

The week was REALLY topped off, though, on Friday night.  We had all congregated in Dad and Mom's hotel room, and Tim and Melissa gave us the best news of the week:  They are expecting a baby in February!!!  We are all pretty excited!!! : D
